GENERAL INFORMATION ON
DOWNTOWN HUNTINGTON BEACH
Downtown Huntington Beach
has been experiencing a slow but constant rate of redevelopment
and improvement over the last 20 years.
Recent public improvements
include the new concrete HB Pier, Pier Plaza Amphitheater,
redeveloped Main Street area, Bluff Top Park, Life Guard
Headquarters, paved beach parking lots, and nice new beachside
bathrooms and concession stands.
Exciting new commercial
developments include many new small buildings on Main Street,
the Waterfront Hilton Hotel, Pierside Pavilion, Huntington Surf
& Sport building, Duke’s and Chimiyo Restaurants, and most
recently the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Additional Downtown Huntington
Beach commercial developments coming in the near future include
Pacific City (aka: 31 acre project) and The Strand (near PCH and
6th Street).
In 1905, initial residential
construction in Downtown Huntington Beach centered around Main
Street in the “numbered streets” and the “city & state
streets”. Eventually, the more affluent families began
constructing homes in and around “Farquhar” and “Lake” Parks in
an area now known as the “Park Area” of Downtown Huntington
Beach.
During the last 20 years,
hundreds of new custom single family homes have been built in
Downtown Huntington Beach and the building continues. Often a
home builder will purchase an old cottage sitting on two legal
25 foot wide lots, then the builder will construct two homes in
the place of the old cottage. The new homes typically range in
size from 2,100 square feet to 3,000 square feet.
In recent years, some of the
larger parcels and adjacent land holdings in Downtown Huntington
Beach were developed as small home tracts. These developments
include: Sandcastle Estates, Stonewood Estates,
Huntington
Classics, Lake Park Estates, Pierwalk, Greystone Landing,
Whaler’s Cove, Crystal Island,
Ocean Point, and Pacific Bay.
Other large parcels were
developed into condominium and townhouse developments
including: Beachwalk, Huntington Bayshore, Townsquare, Plaza
Almeria, Villas Del Mar, Pier Colony, Faire Rivage, 1000 PCH,
Pier House, 1314 PCH, Ocean Breezes, Vista Catalina, Harbouring
Villas, Vista Del Mar, Pacific Ranch,
La Cuesta Racquet Club,
Seaside Village, La Cuesta by the Sea, and Villas St. Croix.
The Downtown Huntington
Beach area is also dotted with several small residential income
properties from duplexes to as many as sixteen units which were
constructed primarily in
the 1960s and 1970s.
