GENERAL INFORMATION ON HUNTINGTON BEACH & HUNTINGTON HARBOUR
Huntington Beach was popularized in the 1960s as “Surf
City” by the surf band Jan & Dean.
The city lives up to its nickname with some of the best
surfing in California. The beach is several miles long and up
to 100 yards deep. The
US Open of surfing is held each July south of the Huntington
Beach pier. The “HB Pier” is the longest and newest pier
in California, and the Pierside Amphitheater features live
public entertainment every weekend in the summer. Huntington
Beach is also known for its Central Park, which includes an
equestrian center, free Frisbee golf course, and enormous
public library and playhouse.
Huntington Beach has a quarter mile stretch of beach
designated as a “Doggie Beach”; the only other such beach
in Southern California is in San Diego.
The Main Street area was remodeled in the 1990s and now
offers many restaurants and shopping opportunities.
Huntington Harbour is
a man made pleasure craft harbour dedicated primarily to
residential use with over one thousand waterfront housing
units including condominiums, townhouses, and detached houses.
Huntington Harbour is located
behind the beach front communities of Surfside and Sunset
Beach.
Most areas of
Huntington Harbour fall within the city limits of Huntington
Beach; however, some portions are unincorporated. The
majority of the waterfront
Huntington Harbour residences include a private boat dock
ranging in size from 20 feet to over 150 feet.
There are four public marinas and the family friendly Huntington Harbour Yacht Club.
Huntington Harbour is the closest mainland port to the
“Island of Romance” Catalina Island with its beautiful and
historic Avalon.
